Aiken frequently designs and supervises testing and inspection programs. For clients that require proof testing of new equipment that Aiken has either designed or certified, Aiken engineers will build a test, design special equipment, supervise the actual test, and report findings. If inspection of new equipment is required to insure that a product is built to specification, Aiken will assist the manufacturer or user in developing an appropriate inspection program.

Case: The exploration division of a major oil company was experiencing fatigue failures in seismic base plates that they were developing for a new “high-energy,” low environmental impact, method of imparting seismic energy into the earth. Aiken Engineering designed and oversaw a field test using strain gages to isolate the source of the high stresses that were causing cracks. The test successfully identified the source of the problem. With this knowledge, Aiken Engineering designed new, improved base plates, supervised manufacturing and inspection of the new base plates, and managed field-testing of the new designs.
