Expert Witness and Litigation Support
 Aiken’s
credibility and expertise is often required in federal
and state courts, specifically when patents and
failures are at issue. Aiken acts as a consultant
and expert witness to those who want to protect
themselves from damages associated with infringement
and field or design failures.
Case:
The mooring winches of a deep-sea drilling unit
failed in service. Aiken was called in to conduct
a quick evaluation of the field failure. Using fabrication
drawings and failure photographs, strength of material
calculations, and finite element analysis Aiken
determined that the material used for the wildcat
was stronger than necessary and too brittle. Aiken
identified the source of the failure and suggested
corrective action, “A material with lower
strength and improved ductility would be a better
choice for the new winches.” Aiken’s
quick response, accurate judgment, and knowledge
saved this client from significant downtime.
